Ballinacourty Lighthouse Established on 1st July 1858. The light was converted to acetylene operation in 1929. Electrification of the light took place on 12th February 1964. The present light source comprises a cluster of 4 x 35W halogen lamps and was installed during the 2005-06 re-equip of the station. It is a small lighthouse as its tower isonly 13 metres(42.6ft) and 16 metres(52.5ft) with the light. Taken yesterday Wednesday 6 March 2013

These boats fish within a 5km (3 miles) limit of the shoreline. They are usually small trawlers or gill netters. Because of their smaller size, they usually lack onboard refrigeration equipment and keep their catch fresh with ice they collect at the pier prior to sailing. With a crew of two or three men, the day boats lack the comfort and facilities of larger boats and will usually stay at sea for a maximum of two or three days. As the Fog Clears Yesterday was very cold with sun and fog. This was taken just before 1pm and the temp had risen only to 4C (39F). Today it is grey and wet again. Working and relaxing in the Sun The weather was fabulous on Sunday morning. The men were busy mending nets in the sun as their boats relaxed :) Thank you for the tremendous response to my collage for my Mum on her birthday. Yesterday was very cold with sun and fog. This was taken just before 1pm and the temp had risen only to 4C (39F). Today it is grey and wet again.
