mcdonegal1 > At home in the Evening Light

Got to visit family at home last week. Not a lot of trawlers in as it is the high fishing season. Taken late in the evening.

Western Chieftain is 45 metres in length, weights 633 gross tons and has engine power of 2400. Its neighbour Girl Stephanie is the same length and weight but the engine is only 1670. Part of the pelagic fishing fleet.

mcdonegal1 > Homesick

Was missing Donegal a lot yesterday so I was browsing through my archives and processed this photo of some of the small trawlers in my home town of Killybegs. The building on the left is the boatyard where my Dad used to work.

Thank you for all the views and comments on my photos last week. I appreciate the time and support.

mcdonegal1 > Hard Work

Donegal are All Ireland Football Champions! As I currently live in the diagonal opposite side of the country I am not up there to get celebratory shots so posting this one from our visit home two weeks ago as it has the Donegal flag flying proudly.

Thanks to everyone for the very warm welcome back last Monday and for all the comments and stars all week. Every one very much appreciated.

mcdonegal1 > Come on Donegal

Donegal is in the All Ireland Gaelic Football final tomorrow for only the second time ever. We won when we made it to the final in 1992. The match is tomorrow but as there is a Blue Challenge for prostate cancer awareness month I am posting this a day early.

mcdonegal1 > Sea Shells

Tomorrow the Tall Ships arrive. Hubby has medical appointments in the morning but we plan on making our way into the quays in the afternoon. This was taken on our recent visit back to my home town.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on my poppies posting.

mcdonegal1 > Back in Time

This is the inside of a traditional Donegal Thatched Cottage from 1700. They consist of 3 rooms known as the lower room, the upper room and the kitchen. This was taken in the kitchen looking down to the lower room.

I love how my Nikon D80 works. No flash used.

mcdonegal1 > Smoker's Corner

Where the smokers have to hang out outside a small village pub on a quay.

Hopeful of getting out for a few hours photography today. Wishing you all, especially all the Dad's, a great day of family, fun and photography.

Taken late in the afternoon on our recent trip back to Donegal. If you are interested in seeing it in a wider setting

Extra medical appointments for hubby, a sick daughter(now much recovered) and work took up my time the last few days. And the wet weather didn't help any either :)

mcdonegal1 > View Point

This is my hubby taking in the view on our recent trip back to my home town area. It is a sight we both thought was not going to be possible during the last few months of 2010 and even up to early this year. Posting it today as I processed it yesterday as we were too tied up in medical appointments yesterday to shoot.

Thanks for all the comments and views on my nephew's photo yesterday. He was thrilled to read them all and has asked me to give you all a big Thank You.

mcdonegal1 > Killybegs 2010 and 1910

Neither photo is mine :-)) Last summer when visiting my home town my nephew (aged 12) wanted to try to recreate the 1910 shot in 2010. I think he did a good job. We were not able to get to where we think the exact spot stood on in 1910 due to houses being in the way! I do not know who took the 1910 shot. It was passed to us through family. Checked the internet and it is widely available there but no photographer acknowledged.

mcdonegal1 > Part of Glenveagh National Park

Best viewed in larger sizes as that little white dot is a house.

As with a lot of estates in Ireland its formation was at the cost of the locals who were evicted by the landowner. For more information http://www.glenveaghnationalpark.ie/index.html

June 1, 2011 In our Celtic year this is now the second month of Summer.
mcdonegal1 > Towering

This is my hometown of Killybegs, Co Donegal on a visit back there last week. The harbour caters for all size of fishing boats and trawlers with 4 piers.

Thank you very, very much for such a warm and heartfelt welcome back. I was truly moved. Looking forward to new friends too. Lots of checkups today but I will be back to comment later today.

mcdonegal1 > Ignoring the Storm

First of all I want to thank you for your support during my hubby's critical illness. Things are more settled now and I hope to be here almost every day.

May 30, 2011

Hubby had a whole week free of medical appointments and was feeling good so we got to go spend the week back in my home area of County Donegal. These sheep ignoring the stormy seas captured my attention. A great example of doing whatever it is that we need to do regardless of what is going on around us.
mcdonegal1 > Bog Cotton

Eriophorum vaginatum or Ceannbhán (in Irish) It grows in bogs :-)) One of the many flowers that are to be found in Irish bogs. http://www.ipcc.ie/bicresourcespr3.html has lots of information on Irish bog flowers.

Thank you very much for the wonderful response yesterday to Hugo.
